Variety Is… showcases students making beautiful music
Tuesday, Mar. 20, 2012 – More than 1,000 students from across Thames Valley will come together in bands, orchestras, ensembles and choirs for a concert unlike any other at the John Labatt Centre on March 27. The annual event, known as Variety Is…, showcases an impressive array of musical talent and range by high school students. The audience will hear concert bands, jazz bands, choirs, guitar ensembles and orchestras performing everything from orchestral classics to pop music. Every secondary school music department in the Board is invited to have an ensemble perform in the concert and music teachers may also choose to form combined groups with their colleagues from other schools. Finally, teachers have the opportunity to recommend deserving students to be part of the TVDSB Honour Concert Band and Honour Jazz Band. Thames Valley’s music programs are among the strongest in the province, with high levels of participation and dedicated educators. The program committee is comprised of faculty and teachers from various high schools. The TVDSB is once again grateful for the generous support of London Life, which has been a major sponsor of the event for four years and our newest sponsor, 98.1 FREE FM.
