2010 Literacy Test Results: Increase in Laurier Results:

Once again we are proud to announce that when the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test results arrived, Laurier has increased its success rate for first time writers. This year, 87% of our first time writers were successful. This continues the trend shown since the 65% rate in February 2002, to 84% last year and now 87% this year.

Laurier once again was above the Board’s overall success rate of 82%. As a composite school, Laurier the test indicates that 87% of our students operate at the provincial standard level in literacy.

The literacy improvement program is working very well at Laurer. Our curriculum leaders will continue to make use of the data gathered with the results of the Literacy Test to revise our courses to better serve the needs of our students. Special thanks to the Literacy Committee, the test implementation team, our Resource department and all of the English department staff who supported the lunch time remediation program.

The individual student formal report from the Ministry will be distributed with the report cards starting July 5. Congratulations to the successful candidates.

A reminder for students entering into Grade 10 next year, and those who were not successful this year: The 2010-2011 Literacy Test will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2011.

Please ensure that doctor’s appointments and other reasons for absence do not hinder the ability of students to write the test on March 31, 2011.
