Huron Park S.S. -- Special Schedule for Feb 6
Classes resume Feb 6 at 8:15 am. It will be a Day 1.In the morning, students will follow their semester 1 timetable. This will provide students an opportunity to view their exam and culminating tasks. In the afternoon, students will start their semester 2 classes. Students should check the student portal for their timetable.The schedule and a link to the student portal is posted on the schools webpage www.tvdsb.ca/HuronPark

Husky Hoopsters !!!
The boys and girls basketball teams have been very busy over the past 2 weeks. The girls team won several games at the Glen cairn Husky Hoops Tournament and continue to have success in league games. The girls recently took part in a tournament in Strathroy. Stay tuned for more results as the season progresses !

LDSS students winning at the OSSTF District 11 Student Achievement Awards:
The following students, Aksa M., Jesse C. and Alex O. were award winners in this year's Student Achievement Awards Competition in honour of Marion Drysdale. The challenge for 2012 was The Right to Speak, the Responsibility to Listen. Students were invited to create a response in either essay, poem or video format. Aksa M's poem, Do You Hear Us was chosen by the Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation as a school winner. Unsung Hero's Award Ceremony
On February 15th, 2012 at 3 p.m, Parkside will once again honour those students that stood out amongst their peers in Semester One.
Nominated by teachers, these students are deemed to have gone above and beyond in regards to their school work, attitude and many other attributes.
Letters will be going home with students on February 8th, 2012. Parents are welcome and encouraged to join us for this ceremony.

MMM...... Cake Day - Feb. 10
Cake Day is coming!
Cake Day is a longstanding Stoneybrook tradition where students can buy tickets to win their favourite goodies and fun items. This year it's on Friday, Feb. 10th.
How do you win?
Tickets will be sold in each classroom on Friday the 10th for 25 cents each or five for a dollar. Students will then be given the opportunity to view the "tasty treats" and drop their tickets in the box of the goodie or fun item that tempts them the most. Enter as many times as you like to increase your chances of winning, but remember that you can only win once.

Water Week
The Me to We held daily fundraisers throughout the week of Jan 23-27 with all proceeds going to our Clean Water Campaign to build a Clean Water Well in a rural community of Sierra Leone. Check out pictures from the week and all the fun we had!

We really enjoyed the winter concert. (It was a great way to showcase all the student talent at West Oaks!)
I love it when "Nutrition Facts" sheets get sent home. Great lunch ideas for parents and I let the kids pick from the list too! Really helps me out when grocery shopping! (We are pleased to share the information we receive from the Middlesex London Health Unit monthly.)

WACKY SWEATER DAY!
Our school will be taking part in National Sweater Day again this year! World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Canada is calling on Canadians to turn down the heat and sport a sweater for one day. This shows you’re committed to taking action on climate change. Last year, thousands of people across the country took part and schools, businesses and homes across the country reduced their energy for the day. Together, they showed the importance of working together for a healthier planet.

The Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB) is seeking applications from interested members of the Western Elgin community to serve on a Board-appointed Accommodation Review Committee (ARC).ARCs bring together school communities that face challenges such as aging school facilities, new residential developments, growing program demands and declining enrolment. Honour Orchestra Opportunity Grades 7 and 8
The grade 7 & 8 Honour Orchestra is open to any grade 7 & 8 student who is looking for a challenge beyond their class orchestra. We rehearse each Thursday at lunch.
In addition to Thursdays, The Honour Orchestra will be starting their Connections Orchestra rehearsals at Saunders on Feb 8th. These rehearsals will run every other WED until the end of May. Students will be dismissed at 2:20-4:00PM on those days, to go to Saunders to rehearse with students from Lambeth and Arthur Ford. This promotes students working together through orchestra, who are in transition toward high school.
