James Todd
 | A resident of Elgin County for 15 years, James Todd was elected as a Trustee in October 2010 for the County of Elgin, representing the municipalities of West Elgin, Dutton-Dunwich, Southwold, Central Elgin, Malahide, Aylmer, Bayham and the City of St. Thomas. James brings a county-wide perspective, serving on the former Thames Valley District Health Council. In the community, James is best-known as the founding Editor of the St. Thomas Elgin Weekly News and the Elgin This Month magazine. He is currently President of the Elgin Condominium Corporation #3. James is a professional innovator and communicator. He was part of the team that brought the ’88 Olympics to Calgary. After a decade leading creative projects, including ones that received awards from the Saskatchewan Architects Association and the Saskatchewan Recreation Facilities Association, he managed policy and planning at the City of Regina. As Senior Policy Advisor to the Chief Economist of Saskatchewan, he contributed to the work that led to the first balanced budget in modern Canadian history. In 1991, he founded and led a marketing / advertising agency, serving clients ranging from multi-nationals like FedEx, HP and 3M; to national brands like Oxford Learning and Canada Revenue Agency; to regional powerhouses like the Credit Union system, the Sask Wheat Pool, and a non-Bell telco; plus many local-scale small business leaders. Over the years, James has provided communications counsel at every level of government and to each major political party. James has been a committed college educator since 2005. He teaches all aspects of human communication, with emphasis in two areas: skill development such as in interpersonal communications, public speaking, and negotiation; and business communication, including branding, marketing, corporate communications, and public relations. He has taught at Durham College in Oshawa, at Olds College, in Calgary, and at Fanshawe College, in St. Thomas. He currently teaches at St. Clair College. In addition, he has considerable experience as a seminar leader and corporate trainer, including the practical training of the Canadian Forces. He is a graduate of the University of Waterloo, with additional studies in leadership, health care administration, public relations, IT management, and mediation.
