Westmount P.S.

Safe Schools

Staff, students and parents want Westmount Public School to be a place where everyone feels welcome, safe, and respected.  Our students need a safe and positive learning and teaching environment to be successful at school.

The Keeping Our Kids Safe at School Act came into effect on February 1, 2010.  It is the latest step to help make Ontario's schools safer.  This new law requires that all school staff report serious incidents that could lead to suspension or explusion to school administration and that administration notify parents of victims when a student has been harmed.  In addition, all staff who work directly with students, for example teachers or educational assistants, must respond not only to serious incidents but also to inappropriate or disrespectful behaviour among students.  This could include racist or sexist comments, graffiti, or vandalism, behaviours and activities that are unacceptable in Ontario schools.

This Safe School page includes our recent Safe Schools survey that compares 2006 results with 2009 data for grades 4-6 and grades 7-8.

An anonymous bullying reporting form is available so students can safely report incidents of bullying or harassment to school administration.

Student safety is our number one priority.
