School Improvement Plan

School Improvement Goal - To improve students' level of writing proficiency by June 2012: EQAO results and school data will show an increase in the number of students achieving level 3. Specifically, our grade 3 students will improve in writing from 63% to 70% achieving  level 3 on EQAO and grade 6 students from 61% to 65% achieving level 3 on EQAO. Improvement plans created by divisions target strategies appropriate to the age of the students. Teachers will use gradual release of responsibility strategies, (modelled, shared, guided and independent) to explicitly model, teach and assess writing proficiency. In addition, anchor charts, exemplars, rubrics and bump-it-up walls will be routinely used with students.

School Improvement Goal - To build school culture, both school pride and school identity.   Student decorum in hallways and on the yard is respectful of all staff members and of each other. Students are engaged and actively involved in school activities.

Measures of Student Achievement and Success

At the Thames Valley District School Board, we believe that assessment and evaluation of student achievement are integral parts of the learning process. Information gathered through assessment and evaluation helps teachers to determine students' strengths and weaknesses in their achievement of the curriculum expectations. It also serves to guide teachers in adapting curriculum and instructional approaches to students' needs and in assessing the overall effectiveness of programs and classroom practices. A variety of methods are used to gauge student progress including: teacher observation, classroom tests, projects and other examples of student work.
