Springbank P.S.

Code of Conduct

This code of behaviour has been adopted by the Springbank Advisory Council and is consistent with the legislative framework of the Education Act and Regulation 298 and T.V.D.S.B. Safe Schools Policy. It includes the provincial standards of behaviour and the mandatory consequences for student actions that do not comply with these standards.

Rationale

As members of the student body, staff and community of Springbank Public School, we wish the atmosphere throughout our school to be conductive to learning and to promote student growth and development. We expect it to be cheerful, friendly and characterized by consideration for others and respect for the rights of the individual so as to create a safe environment.

Parents and guardians are their children’s first and most influential teachers. They have the right and the responsibility to participate in the education of their children. Families are encouraged to learn more about their children’s program and to become a partner in helping the school and the student achieve their goals.

It takes a whole community to educate a child. We welcome an interested community and need its support.

Consequences

Our goal is to help students see that they are responsible for their behaviour and in control of their own actions. The used of fair and logical consequences help students know when they have chosen inappropriate or unacceptable behaviour. In this way, students are taught responsibility and respect for self and others.

Such consequences might include:
• warning
• time out
• loss of privileges
• withdrawal of the student from the classroom situation
• requiring a student to make restitution where appropriate
• parent/guardian conferences: phone call home or letter home
• interview with the teacher or principal
• behaviour contracts
• change in programmed delivery location
• referral to outside agencies• suspension from school
• expulsion
• denial of computer privileges and/ or legal action on unacceptable use of the school’s Internet
It is expected that the above will be understood through communication, practice and review by all parties.
