| Admission to university is generally based upon the average of a student’s six 4U/4M courses including prerequisites.
Different university programs demand specific Grade 12 "U" courses, and/or a specific number of "U" courses for admission. | Grade 12 "M" courses fulfill the admission requirements of college and most university programs.
| These courses are also designed to prepare students for apprenticeships and other training programs.
Most colleges do not ‘reward’ students for taking ‘U’ courses instead of ‘C’ courses. | These courses are for students who do not intend to further their education with any post-secondary training. |
| Open Courses in Senior grades are interest-based courses. All students who wish to broaden their knowledge and skills in a particular subject may take these courses. Students may select open courses that may not be directly related to their post-secondary goals. |
| Transfer Courses: Students who change their post-secondary plans and wish to change destination ‘pathways’ may need to meet prerequisite requirements of the new pathway. Students wishing to change course types from Applied to Academic or College to University, may need to repeat the course of the different type, at minimum. In Mathematics, a student will need to repeat the Grade 9 course. |
