How Does Saunders Work toward a Safe School Environment ????
Schools need to be safe so students can learn ! At Saunders, we have a full ranges of approaches to this issue in order to keep our students safe at school !

Community Police Officer - one day a week to meet with students, to teach awareness sessions to Civics and Law classes and speak to classes- this year we are working with Constable C. Noel.

- focus on healthy relationships

Safe Schools Drama Presentations for TVDSB Secondary Schools- a Saunder's teacher has been chosen to write a new play every year and to direct Saunders students who then perform this show across schools in Thames Valley District School Board. Full debriefing of the play is done with every class who sees the performance ( to ensure the key messages are taught).

Saunders Peer Mentor Program ( SMP's)

Special Programs for students who display at risk behaviours
- peer mentors, a girls group led by Public Heath Unit, Coaching Boys into Men's session,the Caring Adult Program and special groups/speaker sessions as we have opportunity.

and of course, students have access to a number of groups/clubs that can also be supportive - including, among many, many others - the GSA, Social Justice, MSA, Christian Fellowship and more.

We are very proud of the fact that we had 3 students receiving Leadership in Safe Schools Awards on May 19, 2010. These are presented by TVDSB in partnership with the Centre for Children and Families in the Justice System, The Fourth R and Crimestoppers.
