Lester B. Pearson School for the Arts

Our Library

Welcome to the Pearson Library Site!

This year, we will have 2 Teacher-Librarians...Mr.Wasse and Mr.Surman. Hopefully, we'll be able to work our time-tables to allow a greater teacher-librarian presence in our school library.

Along with a great collection of both fiction and non-fiction resources, we run a number of library-based programs throughout the year in conjunction with our classroom teachers. In the Junior Division (4-6), we will again be running our Forest of Reading Program in conjunction with the Ontario Library Association. This includes the Silver Birch Express program and the Silver Birch program. For the Intermediate Division (7-8), we have the Red Maple and the White Pine programs. These programs will start shortly before the holiday break in December, and keen readers (a minimum of 5 books read in each division) will be able to vote for their favourite in May. A big THANK YOU to our School Council who have generously allocated funds for this over the last number of years. Check out the following link to access information about these great programs:

In addition, we will once again be running our Scholastic Book Fair during the first week of December. This is an important fund raiser for our Library, so please consider making some purchases at this time. Books make great presents for the December celebrations! We will also be asking for volunteers to help us run this event.

Our School Library Catalogue

Check out the following link to access our school library catalogue, along with some search engines that will help your child with their research.

Either you or your child can search for material in our library from home, either by entering a general topic/subject, or they can refine the search through the use of either author and/or title.

In addition, you can check what books are currently out by typing in the student # of your child.

In the "On Line Resources" area, you will have access to 3 different sections. There are a number of very useful databases, either provided by the TVDSB and/or the Ontario Government. In some cases, you will need a password if you try to access these from home. Please feel free to e-mail me at k.wasse@tvdsb.on.ca and I will provide these to you. In addition, there are several links to excellent search-engines that will help your student when researching on-line. You can also access other public libraries in your area ("Other Libraries").
