Purpose
Our Shared Vision is built on an understanding that long-term partnerships in the area of education will support and nurture the growing success of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit (FNMI) students and staff in Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB). Building relationships based on trust, mutual respect, and sharing will foster stronger equitable partnerships that recognize the rich and meaningful contributions of First Nations Métis and Inuit of Turtle Island. [1]

Vision

Local FNMI communities and TVDSB partners will work together to provide a wholistic [2] educational experience for FNMI students through which their mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual needs are met. The ways in which we teach and support all students through curriculum and programs across all subject areas will honour the rich histories, languages, and cultures of FNMI people. This inclusive approach to education will affirm cultural identities, and pride, and encourage students to reach their highest potential.

Mission Through a broad range of collaborative strategies, the Board will engage FNMI students, parents, and community members in the planning and decision-making processes that affect the educational experiences of FNMI students. The Board will also include local knowledge holders such as Elders and cultural teachers in the development of innovative ideas and plans for current and future projects and programs. Administrators will work with FNMI partners to include cultural perspectives into school and system policies, procedures, and programs. The Board will support teachers to include FNMI perspectives into classroom curriculum across all subject areas. The Board will also offer ongoing professional development encouraging all employees to better understand history, as it relates to past and present issues affecting communities.
