Emily Carr, The Artist

Emily Carr
Emily Carr

Emily Carr was born in Victoria, British Columbia.  She was an individual with an independence of mind, natural artistic talent, a spirit of expressionalism and revolt against authority.  Her painting glowed with life and were filled with light.  Most of her inspirations came from the sea and the native peoples.  Her work was greatly admired by Lawren Harris and other members of the art community.  One of her most famous works entitiled, The Raven, was featured on a postage stamp honouring the century of her birth.

Emily Carr was a Canadian who sought to interpret her country to others and succeeded.  We are very proud as a school to be named after such a unique and talented person.
