Code of Conduct
Emily Carr Public School

The purpose of the Code of Conduct of Emily Carr is to establish and maintain a safe and secure leaning and working environment. A safe and secure learning environment will be achieved through proactive prevention and intervention strategies where everyone in the school community values and respects each other.

The Emily Carr Code of Conduct is based on the premise that each individual in the school is responsible for his/her own behaviour and that progressive discipline is a shared responsibility of school staff, as well as parents and guardians.

The Emily Carr Code of Conduct is designed to serve as a guide to help students develop as persons and avoid problems related to misconduct. Appendices include S.M.A.R.T.S., Emily Carr Dress Code, and Bullying Prevention.

The Emily Carr Code of Conduct summarizes the behaviour expected of students and describes the procedures which will be used by school administrators, teachers and staff for responding to student behaviour problems.

The Emily Carr Code of Conduct is in alignment of what is required with the Education Act, Provincial Code of Conduct and the TVDSB policies on Codes of Conduct.

The Code of Conduct will be reviewed as needed and it will be published in the student planners annually. It will also be posted on the Emily Carr website for everyone in the school community to access.

I will contribute to character development. Character development begins with me each day as I learn to:

• seek and nurture character attributes within myself
• respect the worth of all people and all life
• accept people as they are, without judgment or labelling
• find common ground with those who seem different
• practice non-violent solutions to problems
• support non-violent actions by all people, including leaders
• work for fairness and justice in my community
