General School Description

Eagle Heights Public School is located at 284 Oxford Street West in London. The school is a Junior Kindergarten to Grade Eight facility that accommodates approximately 550 students. Eagle Heights P.S. is in an urban area of London which is characterized by a blend of residential accommodations. Single unit dwellings and multi-level apartments house our students. The students represent a diverse cultural background. Several are new Canadians from all over the world and many are second or third generation Canadians. This gives our school a unique blend of diversity which is enriching for the students. Many students at Eagle Heights receive English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction. This adds an additional blend to our academic program at the school.

School Organization

Eagle Heights is a Junior Kindergarten to Grade Eight school which offers students a combination of straight and split grades. The majority of our students attend school for lunch and we offer a "house league" approach to our noon hours at Eagle Heights. We also offer a Before and After School Program for students.

Goals

Eagle Heights School has two school goals for the 2012-2013 school year.  Our first school goal is to improve our higher-level reading comprehension skills. The second school goal is to develop the ability to effectively communicate students' mathematical knowledge, extend their thinking and develop a conceptual understanding of math concepts through the Problem-Solving model.  To achieve these goals,  the Eagle Heights staff is focusing on three main areas. The first is a focus on the quality of instruction for literacy and numeracy. The second is a focus on current and effective assessment and evaluation practices for literacy and mathematical instruction. The third is a focus on the collaborative sharing of best teaching and learning practices.

Co-instructional Activities

Eagle Heights offers students a range of sports, clubs and other activities which compliment our academic program. Teachers and parent volunteers combine to make non-instructional times active for our students.

Volunteers at the school

Eagle Heights has an extremely active volunteer network. Parents, senior citizens, university and college students all provide excellent support to our class based activities.

Measures of Student Achievement and Success

At Thames Valley, we believe that assessment and evaluation of student achievement are integral parts of the learning process. Information gathered through assessment and evaluation helps teachers to determine students' strengths and weaknesses in their achievement of the curriculum expectations. It also serves to guide teachers in adapting curriculum and instructional approaches to students' needs and in assessing the overall effectiveness of programs and classroom practices. A variety of methods are used to gauge student progress including: teacher observation, classroom tests, projects and other examples of student work. For more information on our school's provincial assessment results, visit the Education Quality and Accountability Office.
