In early April, all Thames Valley District School Board Elementary Schools will be receiving the Thames Valley Education Foundation's premiere issue (Spring Edition) of School's Out. Copies will be distributed to every elementary student to bring home. School's Out is a fun and exciting publication created for elementary school-aged children and their families that affords us the opportunity to highlight initiatives and projects. With the support of the Thames Valley District School Board, the Thames Valley Education Foundation (TVEF) has agreed to pilot two editions of this magazine. We are always looking for more creative ways to raise funds and to communicate with families. The plan is to produce four issues, one for each season. Each edition will contain themed editorial content and advertisements from local businesses within the district, offering educationally-based programs and activities that can enhance a child's learning opportunities, or simply offer fun and activities for the whole family. Proceeds from each edition will go directly to the Foundation’s Caring Fund. School's Out is free to the families of all children in our Board's elementary schools. There is also no cost to the School Board. The revenue is generated by local businesses and organizations paying to advertise in this magazine. The advertisements will focus on promoting a healthy lifestyle and family life. A similar magazine and agreement have been in place at several other School Boards in Ontario and much money has been raised to support school districts. As you will see, the publications will feature interesting and meaningful articles about education, puzzles, games and plenty of useful information about family activities for those times when school is out. Further to this they will provide activities and ideas that will encourage family involvement and enhance further learning at home. We believe that a child’s education is a dynamic process that extends beyond the classroom. School’s Out is a platform for you to launch fun, family-friendly pastimes which can complement your child’s life. Learning and teaching moments can, and do happen almost anywhere, especially when families are involved. We hope you enjoy it.
