The Personal Support Worker is a caregiver who works under the direction of the R.N. and/or R.P.N. and may be employed in long-term care homes, retirement homes, private homes, and other community-based settings. They follow a defined care plan and are limited to assisting with activities that an individual  would be able to perform on his/her own if they were able to.

The PSW may find employment with seniors and their families, individuals who are mentally or physically challenged, or anyone who requires assistance with personal care needs.  The PSW supports people to live more independently and strives to promote wellness.

The PSW Program specialized programming fee is $1000.00 for 2012-2013.  A student activity fee at an institution offering secondary school credits is not a tuition fee and, therefore, does not qualify for a T2202A claim for income tax.  T2202As are granted by post-secondary learning institutions for tuition paid.  The TVDSB Schools of Adult and Continuing Education are not post-secondary learning institutions, so we do not issue T2202As.  The fee paid for the PSW Program was cost recovery in nature, i.e. it covered lab and materials fee, textbook and workbook, 2 uniforms and 2 school crests, photo identification badge, Standard First Aid and Level C CPR/AED training at the Healthcare Provider Level, Mask Fit Testing, Alzheimer Information Series certificate, Safe Food Handling, Gentle Persuasive Approach, resume and cover letter writing workshop, job fair, graduation and awards ceremony and pin and PSW certificate.

Full-time programs start in late August and late January.  Classes are held from Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:55 p.m. (offered in London and St. Thomas).

Part-time programs start in September and end in early June.  Classes are held from Monday to Friday from 8:25 a.m. to 11:55 p.m. (offered in London, Strathroy, and Woodstock).  A part-time afternoon program is offered in London from 12:35 p.m. to 4:05 p.m.

Night school starts in September and ends in June.  Classes are held Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings and Wednesday evenings (until the end of November) from 5:15 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. (offered in London, Strathroy, St. Thomas and Woodstock).

The school arranges all placements.  Placement dates and times fluctuate depending on the program.
